‘ART’FELT WELCOME

-

THE second half of the Gold Coast’s most significant public art commission titled “HILIGHTS” is now under construction on the Pacific Highway at Yatala.

The northern site of the $2 million Gateways Public Art Commission, co-funded by the Queensland Government and City of Gold Coast, will be completed before GC2018.

Featuring 101 modified highway poles and 296 lights closely spaced at different heights, the art will present a unique welcome to visitors and residents to the Gold Coast. Lifestyle and Community Committee Chair and project spokesman Councillor Hermann Vorster said the southern installation, which featured the letters GC, was completed before Christmas.

“The northern artwork will be a much larger installation than the southern design,” Cr Vorster said.

“It will stretch 100 metres and have a maximum height of 11 metres.

“The Gateways public art commission will serve as stunning bookends for the city when completed.”
