Caslick and Holland’s own spin on training

- JON GEDDES

THEY are Australian rugby’s power couple who don’t like to train together.

Lewis Holland and Charlotte Caslick, who plays for Bond University in the National Sevens University Series, will take centre stage at Allianz Stadium during the big Sydney Sevens tournament that kicks off on Australia Day.

While Holland will captain the Aussie men’s side, his partner Caslick will be a key player in the Aussie women’s outfit.

“We just get on with it now. We think it is normal because we train alongside each other most days,” Caslick said.

But like every couple the two rugby stars from Sydney’s northern beaches who have been together for four years do have their limits and need their space.

“We get a bit competitive with each other so we don’t really train an awful lot together, it just ends up in arguing,” Caslick admitted.

Holland backed up what his girlfriend said.

“We don’t really venture down that way too much because we both get pretty frustrated and it probably ends up being less productive,” he laughed.

“It’s probably because of our competitive nature that we have got to where we have got to.”

But because of their unique situation Caslick and Holland do feed off each other’s rugby knowledge and experience, which could provide a winning edge this weekend.

“I think we have learnt a little bit from each other,” Caslick said.

“He is probably a lot more composed than I am at times and gives me advice around that area of the game.”
