Titans snare Sharks leader

- TRAVIS MEYN

THE Titans have secured a crucial off-field signing by poaching Cronulla’s football boss Phil Moss.

Moss will join the Gold Coast in the newly created Head of Football role to assist coach Garth Brennan, particularly in player recruitment.

Ross helped Cronulla clinch its historic first NRL premiership in 2016 and has also spent time at the Tigers, Panthers and Eels.

After securing former Broncos chairman Dennis Watt, the Gold Coast’s new owners have splashed more cash in an attempt to beef-up the club’s under-resourced football department.

Watt has been in the handson role of executive chairman for over a month, assisting CEO Graham Annesley in the day-to-day runnings of the NRL club.

Moss will oversee Brennan’s football department and said the Titans had a bright future.

“With new owners, new coach and an exciting roster, it’s a great time to be joining the Titans,” he said.

“I’ve worked previously with Garth Brennan and it’ll be great to renew that relationship.

“I’ve been involved with a few clubs that have gone through a rebuilding phase and I’m excited about the opportunity at the Titans.”

Brennan has been juggling the club’s recruitment while overseeing his first pre-season as an NRL head coach.

Moss will alleviate some of those pressures and Annesley said his appointment would strengthen the Titans.

“Phil has been around the game for a long time and has a wealth of experience,” he said.

“He will oversee all aspects of our football operations and work closely with Garth Brennan on strategic recruitment and retention as we continue to strengthen our roster.

“We are all very excited about the coming season, and the addition of Phil will only enhance our prospects of future success.”

Moss will join the Titans early next month.
