SHIP COMES IN

TODAY’S news of the Gold Coast’s political community universally backing the push for a dive site is a minor miracle.

It is rare in the history of our city that even a handful of politicians even from the same party can agree on anything.

But to have all our councillors, state and federal MPs, plus our lone Senator on a unity ticket is welcome news.

But these words now must be backed up by action from city hall to the parliaments to ensure the Gold Coast gains a much-needed piece of tourism infrastructure.

The push, led by Mayor Tom Tate and Federal MP Steven Ciobo to secure the HMAS Darwin for the Gold Coast, must now be supported and it must become a reality soon.

This is a great city which has attractions that have provided joy to millions but we need to refresh and add new feathers to the cap if we wish to remain competitive.

The Gold Coast is a global city now and our own dive site would bring much-needed millions and visitors into our growing economy.
