Best in state facing off

GOLD Coast will send a battalion of fleet-footed dynamos to the Sunshine Coast for today’s start of the Queensland Oztag Junior State Cup.

More than 8000 people are expected to hit Sunshine Coast Stadium for the three-day event, which includes 157 teams lining up across 15 fields.

Ranging in age from under-10s to under-15s in both boys’ and girls’ competitio­ns, the 2500 players will also vie for selection in the Queensland Country or Queensland City teams for the Oztag Super Series in June.

Nerang will send under-13 and under-15 boys’ teams, with Coomera rolling out boys’ sides in the under-10s, under-12s and under-13s.

Miami has a side in each of the 12 divisions, with only an under-12 girls’ team missing for Labrador.

Tweed Coast has five teams.
