GOOD REASON FOR McKINNON TO MISS FIRST PRO

-

GOLD Coast surfing legend Andrew McKinnon admits he's disappointed to miss the Burleigh Pro for the first time but hopes it’s for long-term gain.

The veteran surf champion, whose Surf Scene column runs in the Bulletin each Wednesday, has undergone a hip operation in recent days.

It has meant the Pro has been robbed of one of its biggest supporters. “I’m really disappointed,” McKinnon said.

“But this (operation) was really important and I don’t want to keep hobbling around the place for a while; I want to get back out there.”

McKinnon, though, is proud one asset of the Pro remains unchanged.

“It has gone backwards and forwards but it kept the Australia Day date,” he said.
