TINY MIAOWTHS TO FEED
DREAMWORLD is once again home to the pitter patter of tiny paws after 14-year-old tiger Nika gave birth to these adorable twin cubs. General manager of life sciences Al Mucci said the two females, who were born nine days ago, are feeding and growing well. “Everything is growing, their teeth, their claws,” he said.
IT’S a dream come true for fans of big cats and people worldwide eager to see tigers survive.
Two tiger cubs have been born at Dreamworld after an anxious 100-day wait.
Tiger Island’s 14-year-old Nika gave birth to two female cubs on January 24, the first cubs born at Dreamworld since 2015.
The blue-eyed and as-yet unnamed cubs weighed 1.4kg and 1.6kg when born.
Less than one week on, general manager of life sciences Al Mucci said the cubs were doing well and stacking on about 100g a day.
“We’re pretty happy and excited about the new cubs,” he said. “They’re feeding well and they’re growing. Everything is growing, their teeth, their claws.”
Mr Mucci said the cubs would be part of an interactive educational program on Tiger Island but once fully grown, could be moved to another Australasian zoo under the Global Species Program.
The cubs will remain in their den for the next two weeks, with their first public appearance later this month.
