Bikie’s sex brag in trial

- LEA EMERY

A FORMER Bandido bikie who bragged about sharing women with one of the central figures of the infamous Broadbeach brawl allegedly told the Crime and Misconduct Commission he did not know the man.

Peter Mauric, 48, is facing trial in the Southport District Court on a charge of perjury by providing conflicting statements.

The court heard Mauric told the Crime and Misconduct Commission he did not know the man who his friend and fellow Bandido Jacques Teamo confronted in the Aura Bar moments before the brawl in September 2013.

“No, I had never seen him in my life until that night,” he said in a recording of the October 2013 CMC hearing played to the court yesterday.

The Crown alleges that man was Jason Trouchet.

Detective Senior Constable Mick Guida pointed out Jason Trouchet in CCTV footage of the moments before the brawl, which was played to the court.

Two years after making the statements to the CMC, Mauric gave evidence in the Southbrawl port Magistrates Court in May 2015 where he said he had known Mr Trouchet for about 20 years.

“We used to bed girls together,” Mauric said in a recording of the magistrates court proceedings played to the district court yesterday.

“I would have her one week, the next week he would. “That’s how close we were.” Mauric also claimed in a recorded phone call between him and Mr Trouchet he could have stopped the Broadbeach if he had recognised Mr Trouchet that night.

“I am spewing I (expletive) didn’t recognise you,” Mauric said in the phone call.

“It’s really pissing me off. “If I had have clicked I could have diverted the situation myself.”

Defence barrister Scott Corish said despite this, when Mauric made the statement in the CMC he did not know counsel assisting the hearing was referring to Mr Trouchet.

“There is a question that is missing from the CMC,” Mr Corish said. “That is, do you know Jason Trouchet?”

Mr Corish said Mauric was not clear on which person was being referred to.

The question asked by the CMC did not name Mr Trouchet and only referred to the “person Jacques Teamo confronted”.

Mr Corish said there were a number of people the CMC could have been referring to as 40 people were arrested that night. He said Mauric did not have the benefit of CCTV footage or still photos of the incident to determine who was being referred to during the CMC hearing.

The trial continues today.
