BRAZILIAN CIRCUS TO TURN ON THE FLAIR

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

RAIN and blistering winds can’t hold this show back.

Despite high winds delaying the set-up of Brazilian Circus Rio’s Big Top yesterday, the show is ready to open for the first time on the Gold Coast tonight.

And to add fuel to the fire, their Wheel of Death motorbike stuntman could become a father at any time, with his heavily pregnant partner due to give birth.

But as the old adage goes: ‘The show must go on’.

A host of performers from across the globe, including Brazil, Spain, Portugal, France, Russia and Italy, will show of their array of tricks and skills in Australia’s newest circus.

Evolve marketing director Suzanne Borden said the circus had only opened at the end of last year and had gathered the best of the best – with added Brazilian flair.

“The juggler, Artem Khomanko is world-famous and does a trick that only he can do (where) he’s on stilts, juggles, and he has a pole on his forehead and balances a ball on that pole,” she said.

“It’s something (you) won’t see again. “It’s utterly unique and great family fun.”

She said the circus also had FMX riders.

The riders perform stunts inside the tent.

There will also be samba, creative ballet, clowns, capoeira dancing and aerial acrobatics. The show will run from today to February 18. Tickets start at $29. Family passes start at $129.

The show will be held at Millaroo Dve, Helensvale.
