Tomic, de Minaur in spotlight
ROOKIE teenager Alex de Minaur has capped his sellar rise to Davis Cup ranks but Australia’s previous prodigy remains at loggerheads with captain Lleyton Hewitt.
While talk continues to centre around Bernard Tomic and the Gold Coaster’s fallout with Hewitt, 18-year-old de Minaur yesterday was confirmed as Australia’s second singles player for the first round tie against Germany in Brisbane.
Team captain Lleyton Hewitt confirmed the 18-year-old would make his Cup debut against world No.5 Alex Zverev with Australian No.1 Nick Kyrgios to face Jan- Lennard Struff in today’s opening singles matches at Pat Rafter Arena.
Former world No.1 Hewitt
would not bite when asked about Tomic’s return serve to the former world No.1 after ending his controversial stint on reality TV show I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here.
Tomic on Wednesday night stood by his claim that Australia could not win the Davis Cup without him and threatened to expose corruption in Tennis Australia.
