HAVE SPOONS AT THE READY FOR WORLD NUTELLA DAY

- EMILY SELLECK

THIS is officially the greatest Monday of the year.

Why? Because today we have a legitimate excuse to eat Nutella straight from the jar.

Yep, it’s World Nutella Day, but if you’re a little more sophisticated than us folk eating the delicious spread with a spoon, there are plenty of Gold Coast cafes getting in on the fun with crazy inventions.

Cowch owner Arif Memis said he anticipated selling up to 300kg of Nutella today.

“We just launched a new Nutella-based menu and in two days we used more than 50 (3kg) tubs,” he said. “I imagine (today) will be very busy, I think we could go through up to 100 tubs in a single day.”

Mr Memis, who runs the popular dessert bar at Pacific Fair, said the items on offer would include the ‘Jartella’ priced at $26.

“It’s a 1kg jar of Nutella with marshmallows, a brownie, ice cream, whipped cream and churros,” he said.

Surfers Paradise haunts have also added special items to the menu including a Nutella and Oreo Calzone and Tella Balls at Salt Meats Cheese in The 2417.

Amy McIntyre who works in Surfers said she couldn’t wait to get her hands on a Nutella latte today.

“I work in the area and The 4217 is the perfect place to go when I’m in need of a pick me up,” she said. “Nutellalates from Paradox Coffee Roasters are my personal favourite.

“You can put Nutella on just about anything and it tastes delicious.”
