IT TOOK a former world junior champion to do it but Kobie Enright has finally been beaten in 2018.

Coolangatta surfer Enright has been the form surfer of the summer, winning back-toback World Surf League Qualifying Series events at Maroubra and Burleigh but she fell just short of racking up a third title yesterday.

“Even after two wins in a row, coming second hurts,” Enright said.

“I can’t complain though, three finals in a row is really good. It’s great for my confidence leading into (upcoming events at) Manly and Newcastle.

“So many of the top girls in the world will be at those, so it’s always nice to be prepared and getting some solid scores.”

Enright lost the final of the Tweed Coast Pro to former world junior champion Isabella Nichols, who snared the title with a late 8.75 ride on a long right-hander featuring sharp top to bottom turns.

While competition had been shuffled to Kingscliff in the early rounds, the finals were held at Cabarita, with surfers battling wind-affected 1-1.2m surf.

Gold Coaster Luke Hynd was also denied victory at Cabarita after Newcastle’s Jackson Baker took out the men’s final.
