COAST BBL ANALYSIS

WITH THE MEN’S BBL WRAPPING UP, CONNOR O’BRIEN RATES HOW THE COAST PLAYERS FARED

-

B+ MICHAEL NESER ...........

TEAM: Adelaide Strikers

GOLD COAST LINK: Dolphins captain, when available.

STATS: 11 matches. Batting: 62 runs at average of 20.66 and strike rate of 121.6; high score 40*. Bowling: 13 wickets at average of 28.6 and economy rate of 9.11; best bowling 3-29. Fielding: 3 catches.

REPORT CARD: The numbers don’t do justice to the role he played for the Strikers. Did cop punishment at times but stood up when needed most bowling at the death. Also added value with the bat.

A BILLY STANLAKE ............

TEAM: Adelaide Strikers GOLD COAST LINK: Spent seven seasons at Dolphins. STATS: 10 matches. Bowling: 11 wickets at average of 22.4 and economy rate of 6.5; best bowling 2-22. Fielding: 2 catches. REPORT CARD: Consistent force who no batsman could

get hold of. Took wickets in eight of 10 games and never conceded more than 31 runs in an innings. Looking more and more like the real deal.

A– BEN McDERMOTT .........

TEAM: Hobart Hurricanes GOLD COAST LINK: TSS product, played in junior Gold Coast Dolphins sides. STATS: 12 matches. Batting: 325 runs at average of 36.1 and strike rate of 138.3; high score 67*. Fielding: 1 catch. REPORT CARD: Reputation as a talented batsman capable of clearing the fence

keeps building. Several im- portant knocks including a semi-final blitz to power the ‘Canes into the final.

B SIMON MILENKO ............

TEAM: Hobart Hurricanes

GOLD COAST LINK: Mem- ber of the premiership-win- ning 2009-10 Dolphins side.

STATS: 8 matches. Batting: 110 runs at average of 55 and strike rate of 171.9; high score 66*. Bowling: No wickets, economy rate of 15. Fielding: 5 catches. REPORT CARD: Surprise packet. Established himself as

a dangerous late overs hitter including whacking five sixes against the Scorchers. Was targeted when bowling.

C NATHAN REARDON .........

TEAM: Hobart Hurricanes

GOLD COAST LINK: Played a couple of Cricket Gold Coast games for Surfers this season and plans on more.

STATS: 3 matches. Batting: 32 runs at average of 32 and strike rate of 145.5; high score 32. Fielding: 1 catch. REPORT CARD: Limited chances but had a nice cameo against the Stars to show he

can still cut it. Dropped for the decider after not getting a hit in the semi-final win.

A TOM COOPER ..................

TEAM: Renegades

GOLD COAST LINK: Lis- more product, younger broth- er Jack plays for Dolphins.

STATS: 11 matches. Batting: 298 runs at average of 49.7 and strike rate of 141.2; high score 65*. Bowling: 1 wicket at average of 89 and economy rate of 7.41; best bowling 1-6. Fielding: 6 catches.

REPORT CARD: Outstand- ing tournament. A regular threat in the middle-order, he made double digits in every innings other than his first. Tidy off-spin option too.

C– MARK STEKETEE ...........

TEAM: Brisbane Heat

GOLD COAST LINK: Played a handful of under-17 games for Dolphins in 2009-10. STATS: 10 matches. Bowling: 10 wickets at average of 32.2 and economy rate of 9.02; best bowling 3-28. Fielding: 1 catch.

REPORT CARD: Unable to back up his stellar 2016-17 campaign. Little to write home about other than his 3-28 to sink the Scorchers. The Heat needed more from their strike paceman. C-

N/A MAX BRYANT ............

TEAM: Brisbane Heat GOLD COAST LINK: Tweed product, current Gold Coast Dolphins player.

STATS: No games played. REPORT CARD: N/A
