Businesses see internships as a great pipeline for young talent and they’re even trying to get to students who are earlier in their degree.

Some students feel apologetic or think “I’m not smart enough” but that’s the point. You’re there to learn, so don’t expect to know it all.

Also, one piece of legislation to be mindful of is the Fair Work Act which states it’s actually illegal to do unpaid work experience unless it’s for a subject. The reason that this legislation is there is because sometimes an internship can feel exploitative.

Be mindful of that when you’re looking for industry experience.
