SO, DOES HISMILE REALLY WORK?

- EMILY SELLECK

SPRUIKED by the likes of Kylie Jenner and Conor McGregor, this teeth whitening product has turned its 20-something developers into overnight rich listers.

But does HiSmile, the at-home teeth whitening brand founded by Gold Coast mates Nik Mirkovic and Alex Tomic, work? I decided to test it out.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past four years, you’ve probably heard of HiSmile.

Not necessarily because you’re interested in teeth whitening (although it’s totally in vogue right now), but because their aggressive digital marketing campaign has employed the use of sponsored ads and international megastars like Jenner, of the Kardashian clan, to promote the product.

What’s more impressive? The duo have made a cool $46 million before their 24th birthdays.

From the first click onto their website, it’s easy to see what they’re doing right: the site is mobile-friendly, the interface is clean, shipping (to my place, at least) is free, there’s a money-back guarantee and the products are vegan friendly.

The brand’s flagship product – the teeth whitening kit – comes with an LED light, mouth tray and teeth whitening gels retailing for $79.

Claiming to whiten teeth in a week after using the product for just 10 minutes a day, the company is shipping out thousands of these little devices to a growing customer base of mostly late teens, all over the world.

What must be appealing to young people is that the product is very accessible, and unlike traditional teeth whitening at a dentist (which can look intimidating) HiSmile is easy to use.

But it might be difficult to see results quickly, unless your teeth are right at the other end of the spectrum, aka they’re yellow.

I can’t see any noticeable changes in my teeth within the first three days, but by day four I’ve moved up one shade.

On the sixth day, I flashed my pearly whites to everyone I interacted with to see whether people would #notice I had moved up two shades.

‘Your teeth look so white!” three people tell me through the day.

Mission accomplished, I guess? HiSmile also sells toothpaste, mouthwash and a gel pen for touchups.
