Labor’s Games traffic chaos is entirely their own fault

-

THE release of Labor’s transport plan for the Commonwealth Games has proven, yet again, the appalling incompetence of the Palaczszuk Government.

Despite having three years to plan for a smooth and successful Games, Labor’s transport measures will cause misery and delays for tens of thousands of drivers and rail passengers.

The LNP fully backs the Games, but there is no excuse for the scale of disruption Queenslanders will face.

Rail services across the southeast will be gutted to provide more services between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

All rail services from Beenleigh to Brisbane will be cancelled from April 5-15, with commuters forced to rely on buses instead. The delays will be huge.

Drivers will be hit too, with lower speed limits for the M1 enforced for a month before the Games even begin.

Lanes will also be closed to ensure athletes (and ministers too, no doubt) can get to the Games.

Drivers are being warned to expect gridlock from 6am to 7pm – and possibly longer.

What’s behind this transport fiasco? Years of under-investment in the M1 and Labor’s failure to recruit enough drivers and provide enough trains.

The Games will be a great chance for Queensland to shine.

But on current form, this Labor Government won’t be winning any medals.
