Coast aces head south

A HOST of Gold Coast triathletes will headline the list of competitors who will feature in this year’s Ironman 70.3 Geelong in Victoria.

Jake Montgomery (Tugun), Sam Appleton (Byron Bay), Tim Van Berkel (Byron Bay) will all compete in the 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride and 21.1km run on February 18.

Appleton is the defending champion and will come in to the event following a successful 2017 campaign that included wins at 70.3 Racine, Eagleman and Santa Rosa.

Appleton also finished fourth at last year’s Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Montgomery is also a former champion of the upcoming Victorian event.
