Gentle maps out warm-up schedule

- TOM BOSWELL

GAMES-BOUND triathlete Ashleigh Gentle says she will likely have just one major hitout before returning to the Coast to compete for gold.

Australia’s great triathlon hope plans to make the opening WTS race in Abu Dhabi – to be held on March 2 – her only major race before the Games while she also plans to take part in a mixed teams relay at Runaway Bay.

“Abu Dhabi is the one race I know there will be a high quality field and I’ll get a good hitout there,” Gentle said.

The Gold Coaster has linked with Triathlon Australia’s international performance centre head coach Jamie Turner in Wollongong after a three-week training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

The 26-year-old and her teammates lived up to 14 hours a day in a house designed to replicate the altitude found at 3000m above sea level.

“It will be nice … to use that in the next few weeks to really hopefully get my training going,” she said
