Smith to play in Maroon
CAMERON Smith is preparing for a testimonial match but he last night uttered the words every Queensland fan wants to hear, declaring he will suit up for another Origin campaign.
Queensland’s scrumbase will be robbed of 59 games of Origin experience this season following the representative retirements of champion playmakers Johnathan Thurston and Cooper Cronk.
But Smith, 34, will be the last man standing of Queensland’s Big Three.
Smith and Thurston will square off in their NRL testimonial match at Suncorp Stadium on February 23, but while the retiring Cowboys champion is finished in Maroon, the Storm rake is soldiering on.
“I haven’t even thought about retirement,” said Smith, who is off-contract this season.
