Newsreader’s new role

GOLD Coast newsreader Wendy Kingston was looking forward to socialising with colleagues when she attends Saturday’s Gold Coast Mayoress Charity Foundation Ball for the first time – and then she got the call.

Kingston has been asked to fill what she calls the “sizeable shoes” of Hot Tomato presenter Emily Jade O’Keeffe, who has had to pull out of her role as MC.

O’Keeffe, still celebrating news she and husband Gerard are expecting a brother or sister for daughter Millie, has been confined to bed “on doctor’s orders”.

With O’Keeffe unable to attend, Mayoress Ruth Tate hand-picked Kingston for the MC role. While the Channel 9 star is “absolutely happy to help” she said: “I’m actually really nervous ... Emily is a Wonder Woman.”
