A FORMER rising football star and four of his friends were hospitalised after he supplied them ecstasy after a night on the town, a court has heard.

Wyatt Alan Bacon, 24, pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court yesterday to one count of supplying dangerous drugs.

The same person who sold Bacon the drugs was also connected to another bad batch of MDMA which resulted in someone’s death.

The court heard Bacon and his friends had taken some drugs on a night out on October 15, 2016.

Later that night the group returned to a Mermaid Waters home where they decided they would buy some ecstasy.

Bacon texted an acquaintance and asked for the drugs.

The court heard Bacon took money from his friends and placed the ecstasy on a plate for them to be shared.

After taking the drugs, Bacon and his four friends ended the night in hospital for observation after becoming “disorientated”.

Defence barrister Bernard Reilly said everyone in the group had decided to purchase the drugs and it was just that Bacon made contact with another dealer via text message.

“My client just made the phone call and put the drugs on a plate,” he said.

Mr Reilly said Bacon was completely co-operative with police when questioned and gave his phone and passcode over when asked.

He said in high school Bacon was a gifted football player and had represented Queensland in Aussie rules.

Bacon now works part-time in telemarketing and is in his final year studying business at university.

Mr Reilly said Bacon hoped to complete an MBA.

Judge Catherine Muir said Bacon and his friends were lucky their injuries from the drugs were not serious. Ms Muir fined Bacon $3000 and no conviction was recorded.
