FANCY A WHOLE LOT OF NANCYS

-

HOW many Nancys does it to take to stage the musical Oliver? Before you go running off to the anti-discrimination board the ‘Nancys’ in question are the love interest of Bill Sykes in the musical. In the case of Spotlight Theatre’s current production, the answer is three cast members. There’s Sheila Bradley, who played the role in the premiere production for J.C. Williamsons in the early 1960s, Kate Peters who starred in the role at the Tempo Theatre at in Canberra in 1981, and Zoe Richards who plays Nancy in the current production. That’s a collective history of 50 years of singing As Long as he Needs Me.
