COAST BEACHES STILL BEST WAY TO BEAT THE HEAT

- KATE PARASKEVOS kate.paraskevos@news.com.au

AS the Gold Coast battles in the grips of a heatwave, the humidity will continue to cause locals to swelter today as the already high temperatures will feel more than four degrees hotter.

With a predicted 32 degrees at the Seaway, a Weatherzone spokesman said it would feel more like 36 degrees.

And it’s even steamier for Beaudesert with the 37 degree temperatures to feel more like a scorching 41 degrees with little reprieve from wind or showers which will be unlikely.

Paris King and her friends Linda Huynh and Daisy Winter had the right idea, hitting the beach at Surfers Paradise yesterday.

The Saint Stephens College student said the weekend heatwave had prompted the girls to cool off at the beach.

“It’s the perfect spot when it’s this hot,” she said.

“Luckily we will be in airconditioning at school, so hopefully we won’t feel the heat too much.

“I would much rather be here at the beach than anywhere else in the heat.”

A Weatherzone spokesman said there would not be much change throughout the day or much of the week with the only notable cool-down on Friday, which will still be hotter than average sitting at around 30 degrees.
