Roar star questions format

-

GOLD Coast’s Brisbane Roar star Hayley Raso questioned the W-League finals format after her premiership-winning side missed a grand final berth with a 2-0 loss to Melbourne City at Perry Park yesterday.

The Roar’s hopes of a premiership-championship double were crushed by a clinical City team that will aim for a hat-trick of championships when they take on Sydney FC in next Sunday’s decider at Allianz Stadium

Brisbane, who lifted the Premier’s Plate a week earlier, faded in the second half as City grabbed the deserved win thanks to goals from Aivi Luik and Jess Fishlock.

Raso could only lament what might have been, with the Roar’s regular season dominance counting for nothing in the sudden-death affair played in front of 3870 fans.

“It’s tough for our girls, coming off a good season and then losing like that,” Raso said. “Quarter-finals would be good to give the top team another chance.”
