Double delight for gun McElligott

-

UNLIKE their male counterparts, Gold Coast United’s women had a rousing home debut at Robina Station Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

After a 4-3 loss to Mitchelton in Round 1, when they conceded four goals in the opening eight minutes, United turned things around with a 3-1 win against Eastern Suburbs. Striker Meaghan McElligott earned the honour of scoring United’s first goal on home turf when she netted in the 17th minute.

She finished her task with a second after 70 minutes that sealed it.

Meanwhile Mudgeeraba’s harsh introduction to the NPL women’s series continues on Saturday when they lost 11-0 to Western Pride at the Briggs Road Sporting Complex.

That result came after the Wallabies were hammered 17-0 by The Gap in the opening round.

“It’s all about learning in our first few games and we have to keep working,” coach David Thompson said.
