Parents appy for nanny

- KEELY MCDONOUGH

A WORLD-FIRST app helping families find instant childcare is being praised as a virtual Tinder for parents and Uber for nannies.

Developed by two friends, the Motherhood mobile app claims to “solve the childcare crisis” by allowing timestrapped parents to post onthe-spot jobs when they want a nanny for anything from a date night, school pick-up, grocery shopping or a gym session.

And just like the dating site it has drawn comparisons to, it turns out a catchy blurb and appealing photos are essential to its successful use.

It has attracted high-profile mums including NRL wags Phoebe Burgess, wife of Rabbitohs star Sam, and Benji Marshall’s wife Zoe, who is yet to have their baby but is already enlisting help.

Motherhood co-founder Alice Pritchard-Davies said every minder was verified with a Working With Children Check, while the app also had a ratings and reviews system.

“Ratings and reviews are incredibly powerful,” she said. “Minders are organised based on mutual connections, and then by distance, so you’re selecting from sitters that have been babysitting for your friends and neighbours.”
