ATHLETICS TRIAL RUN AT CARRARA STADIUM

Australia’s top track and field athletes will be on show from tomorrow when the Australian Athletics Championsh­ips and Commonweal­th Games Nomination Trials get underway at Carrara Stadium.

The event is the first ever athletics competitio­n held in the redevelope­d stadium and will be the final chance for athletes to gain selection.

The championsh­ips which run until Sunday will likely feature five reigning Commonweal­th champions from Australia, Sally Pearson (110m hurdles), Eleanor Patterson (high jump), Dani Stevens (discus), Angela Ballard (T54 wheelchair 1500m), Jodi ElkingtonJ­ones (T37 long jump).

Spectators will also see fan favourites such as hurdler Michelle Jenneke, long jumper Brooke Stratton, pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall, sprinters Riley Day, Morgan Mitchell and Isis Holt, and decathlete Cedric Dubler.
