Big call on campaign

-

THE prolonged closure of Eagle Farm has forced Gold Coast trainer Marcus Wilson to race his stayer Meteorologist in Sydney for the rest of this campaign.

Meteorologist will have his third successive start in Sydney today when he lines up in the Ranvet Handicap (2200m) at Warwick Farm.

“He’s on the back-up and only got beaten three and a half lengths last week at Randwick,” Wilson said. “It was a very good run. “He should have finished fourth, right on the heels of the placegetters, but the leader rolled in in front of him at the 200m mark and took all his momentum away.”

Wilson has been travelling between the Gold Coast and Sydney to supervise his team.

The trainer returned to the Coast to watch his improving three-year-old Wind In The Willow win at Aquis Park on Saturday before heading back to Sydney for the Inglis yearling sales and to oversee Meteorologist’s preparation.

Wilson said there was little point racing Meteorologist in Brisbane while the larger Eagle Farm circuit was closed.

“He’s a very big horse and he does struggle around Doomben, which is a tight turning track,” he said.

“He’s also a backmarker, which makes it very tough for him to win at Doomben.

“He’s definitely a big track horse and with Eagle Farm closed, we thought we send him down to Sydney.”
