Polo players making a state splash

NATIONAL honours now await a host of Gold Coast players who have dominated selections in Queensland Country water polo teams.

Following the state country titles in Townsville, 15 women and eight men have been named in Country sides for May’s national titles in Rock- hampton. There, the Maroons will have two each of women’s and men’s teams competing.

As expected, Gold Coast (1) took out the open women’s state title ahead of Townsville. The second Coast team finished fourth in the five-team pool.

The result was that eight Coast players were included in the Queensland Maroon team for the nationals and another seven are in the Queensland Black team. The Queensland Country Maroon men has two locals in it and the Black side has six selections.

Among the women is Coaster Peta Schulte, who has previously represente­d the Australian Country team.

After three days in Townsville those Gold Coast players heading for Rockhampto­n from May 23-26 are:

WOMEN: Courtney Van Putten, Stacey Williams, Caroline Zanussi, Peta Schulte, Jane Lawrence, Sybilla Ingwersen, Jacqui Lukis, Samantha Firrell (Maroon); Matilda Sweeney, Mikayla Thomas, Alexandra Christie, Bailee Johns, Kylie McClusky, Bella Trainer, Brittany Childs (Black). MEN: Luke Ingwersen, Victor Bianco (Maroon); Robbie Stubbs, Chris Waters, Brodie Gentle, Sean Guiricin, Dylan Nicholson (Black).
