Electricity price war
AN ELECTRICITY price war has erupted in southeast Queensland, saving families hundreds of dollars.
AGL, the biggest player in the market, has matched Alinta Energy’s 28 per cent discount, meaning a typical family of five pays $1818 a year, compared with $1814 with Alinta. Canstar analysis shows that is a $200-a-year saving, compared with AGL’s previous 18 per cent reduction.
One in five southeast Queensland households are still on basic standing-offer contracts, and they stand to save $550 a year from the new deal. Existing AGL customers will have to request the oneyear discount.
