COAST’S AMAZING NEW LUXURY BEACH TOWER

- ANDREW POTTS andrew.potts@news.com.au

A BEACHFRONT block on one of the Gold Coast’s most desirable pieces of land will be redeveloped to create a luxury tower.

Buty the 12-storey “skyhome” will contain just five units.

Developer Pro Active Developments has filed plans for the boutique tower project for a site just north of Narrowneck.

Designed by local firm DBI, the tower will be built with glass-reinforced concrete, similar to that of The Star’s The Darling tower.

In documents filed with the council, the building is hailed as an Australian first.

“To the best of our knowledge there is no building in Australia that pursues this coastal aesthetic with the sophistication and rigour of this proposal,” the document said.

City planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell hailed the development for its ‘iconic’ design.

“Recent low-rise development on the beachfront at Main Beach have been of an extremely high standard,” he said.

“Council welcomes this iconic design, particularly one from a local architect.”

A car lift will lower vehicles into the three-level underground carpark which will service the building and also house maritime craft.

Of the tower, Levels 2-9 will have four two-level three bedroom units with lifts travelling to each level.

Levels 10 and 11 will host a three-bedroom penthouse unit with private access to a rooftop terrace on the 12th level.

UDIA state president Steve Harrison said the project was an example of the growing variety in housing on offer on the Gold Coast.
