A MAN stabbed a friend in the stomach and threatened his mother because the friend pocketed money given to him to hire a car, a court has heard.

Benjamin Black, 37, was denied bail in the Southport Magistrate­s Court yesterday where he faces a raft of charges including attempt to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and multiple breaches of bail.

The court heard Black allegedly approached his friend, Christophe­r Webster, in his Palm Beach home on February 12 after giving him money to hire a car. Police will allege that when Black found out the car had not been hired, he stabbed Mr Webster in the stomach before threatenin­g Mr Webster’s mother.

The court heard Black was on bail at the time of the stabbing and was supposed to appear in Noosa Magistrate­s Court on the same day.

Magistrate Mark Howden said the charges were “serious” and denied Black bail.

The matters were until next month. adjourned
