COAST FAMILY BUST A MOVE IN MUSIC VIDEO
YUGAMBEH people of the Gold Coast have given the latest single from a worldfamous DJ a traditional twist by performing in his music video.
Less than two weeks ago Luther Cora and his children Hezekiah, 14, Tayvonne, 12, Tedashii, 10, and Jahquon, 8, were asked to collaborate in DJ Steve Aoki and singer Daddy Yankee’s music video, Azukita.
With local film producers SRP Films and Los Angelesbased choreographer Darrell Rivera at the helm, the group managed to put the video together within seven days, including conception, filming and editing.
“My kids were so excited,” Mr Cora said.
“All their friends loved it. I think it worked well. Dance and song always go together, there’s no barriers.”
SPR Films co-directors Shannon Robinson and Joel Zico said their “passion project” started when Mr Aoki contacted Mr Rivera for the video as he arrived on the Gold Coast just over a week ago.
Mr Robinson said the unusual collaboration was to help break down walls and for everyone to “get along”. The Yugambeh people’s traditional lands cover the Gold Coast, Tweed, Logan and Scenic Rim.
“It’s mixing the new and the old, modern dance with traditional,” he said.
“This is very exciting. These opportunities don’t come along very often.”
