TRAGEDIES

-

SAINT Stephen’s College students and parents are being offered counselling after yet another tragedy at the Upper Coomera campus.

Just weeks after senior vice-captain Brittany Hills died suddenly, seven grade 10 students are in hospital following a suspected drug overdose.

One mother, who would not be named, said the seriousness of the situation was very raw for many.

“We are still mourning one student,” she said. “I don’t think anyone could cope with losing another.”

Brittany, 17, was found dead under a Paradise Point bridge in the early hours of January 27.

Her death was not believed to be related to drugs.

The school was also struck by tragedy in 2015 when human resources manager and teacher Ray Jackson was killed in a microlight plane crash at Tyagarah.

Principal Jamie Dorrington, in a tribute at the time, said Mr Jackson “embodied all that was great about a teacher – he was caring, intelligent, compassionate and always optimistic.”

Mr Dorrington yesterday confirmed counselling and support would be available to anyone in need following the mass hospitalisation of students.
