THE Gold Coast’s first bikeshare scheme has launched in Surfers Paradise as a partnership between TAG Mobility and Mobike.

The rollout of 200 bikes yesterday proved a success with tourists, locals and even council workers renting them.

“The launch was very successful, bikes were flying off the docks,” Mobike general manager Mina Nada said.

“We had lots of tourists taking them up the beach and a bunch of people from council took them to get to a meeting.

“I actually think demand will be constrained by the number of bikes we have.

“Right now it’s 200, but that number will grow to 2000.”
