SUMMARY

An overnight rise in short-range ESE windswell maintains junky 2 to 4ft surf across the region today under fresh onshore ESE winds. A reinforcing SSE groundswell maintains similar surf-heights across the region tomorrow under still moderate to fresh easterly winds, before both swells fade over the weekend as winds turn lighter N to NE. A larger round of SSE swell may follow early to mid next week, speculatively peaking at solid 4 to 6ft levels.

TODAY

Mix of short range ESE and SSE windswells. Junky, windblown sets ranging from 3 to 4ft across the most exposed breaks, mostly 2 to 3ft+ elsewhere and wrapping at lower levels inside the points and bays. WIND: ESE 15 to 20 knots.

TOMORROW

Mix of E windswell and new mid-period SSE groundswell. Ranging from a junky 2 to 4ft exposed open breaks, wrapping at anywhere from 1 to 3ft inside the points and bays with size depending on exposure. WIND: ESE 12 to 17 knots, tending ENE during the day.

SATURDAY

Mix of smaller ENE windswell and fading SSE swell. Slower sets to 2 to 3ft exposed breaks, grading smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: Early lighter NNW to N, tending NNE and freshening to 10 to 15 knots plus during the afternoon.

SUNDAY

Smaller mix of NE and SE swells around 1 to 2ft exposed breaks, grading smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: Early light NW inshore, tending N and freshening 10 to 20 knots during the afternoon.

MONDAY

New SSE swell picks up during the day. Possibly undersized at 2 to 3ft northern NSW south facing beaches early, building towards 3 to 4ft+ in the afternoon. Wrapping at lower 2ft levels across exposed southern QLD coasts, bigger later. Grading smaller inside the points and bays.

WIND: Lighter S inshore ahead of an early SSE change 20 to 25 knots, tending SE and easing to 15 to 20 knots later.
