FESTIVAL 2018

-

Art will meet science in Southport for the Australian premiere of a spacey new public artwork as part of the Games’ huge multi-arts celebration Festival 2018.

Museum of the Moon, a 7m-wide floating moon sculpture with NASA imagery on its surface, will join our orbit in Chinatown Mall from 10am to 10pm daily from April 4-15.

The replica — each centimetre of which equals 5km of the lunar surface — is capped off by a surround-sound score by composer Dan Jones that includes archive audio from actual moon landings.

Southport residents are perfectly placed to make the most of the huge array of arts and cultural events on the Festival 2018 program — most of them are a short tram ride from away.

Foodies can ride the G to NightQuarter to enjoy traditional dishes from Comonwealth nations for the Helensvale hotspot’s festival of flavours from midday to 9pm every day during the Games. The venue will also host live shows by local artists and performers from throughout the Commonwealth.
