Underwear design personal reminder for emotional health

TOP Drawer are not just inspirational undies – they are also a top idea.

Launched just two weeks ago by a group of 13 Bond University students, the range of men’s underwear is designed to get men discussing mental health in a positive fashion.

Each pair is inscribed with a quote which the wearer can read by looking down. The quotes include: “Rock bottom has built more heroes than privilege” or “Nothing good comes easy”.

The non-profit organisation has already raised more than $1000 through its purchases after selling about 100 pairs.

All of the money is donated to the non-profit’s sponsored charity, Livin’, which deals with mental health issues affecting young people.

Top Drawer member Lochie Delbridge said it all began when they were asked during class to pitch and vote on viable business ideas. Following the vote, Greg Prowse’s To Drawer idea won.

“It was his idea with the inspirational undies,” Mr Delbridge said, adding Mr Prowse also ran a mental health group on campus.

“Greg’s been really involved with mental health for a long time.”

Mr Delbridge said underwear was personal to the individual and was one of the reasons why it was chosen as the place to put the positive quotes.

“Every morning (men) can have a think about their mental health and check in with themselves,” he said.

“You don’t have to go out of the way to talk with other people about it.”

Mr Delbridge said the group had received overwhelming support from both men and women and he was pleased with the organisation’s progress.

The briefs are priced at $22 online, or are available for purchase for $20 at the Bond University campus.
