United add local star Reus as hope builds

-

THE chance to link with coach Sean Lane and help strengthen Gold Coast football connections proved too good for Lochie Reus to ignore.

NPL club Gold Coast United has moved to add starch to defence and vision in attack by adding the 23-year-old, with Reus likely to debut in tomorrow’s Round 4 clash against Brisbane City.

After two consecutive losses Lane turned to the central midfielder, who was keen on returning to the Coast after a stint in US college ranks.

“I had no hesitation to offer him an opportunity,” Lane said.

“I know what he can add, he’s a smart footballer, technically very talented but he’s someone who thinks as well as plays his way around the park.

“You can’t teach that, and it’s such a big thing to add more of that quality to the squad.”

For Reus the decision to join United was relatively easy.

“I wanted to come back to the Coast, settle near my family and friends and finish my studies,” he said.

“I also wanted to play NPL again and when I’d heard Sean had joined United I messaged him and here I am.”

A product of Palm Beach Soccer Club and Palm Beach Currumbin High, Reus also boasts extensive NPL experience with stints in the second -tier competition interstate with Marconi, South Coast Wolves and Macarthur Rams.

United’s men play City tomorrow at Robina at 7pm, with the women’s game at 5pm against Moreton Bay.
