FRESH FACES JOIN MISS WORLD QUEST

- AMY PRICE

THE fresh names in this year’s Miss World Australia pageant are determined to be more than just a pretty face.

Yasmin Ildes, 22, was one of the first eight Queensland finalists selected at a preliminary final on the Gold Coast yesterday, only one of whom had previously entered the beauty pagaent.

The law graduate has already run her own charity for four years running self-confidence workshops for girls in high schools and raising funds for related charities.

“When I left high school I suddenly felt heaps of pressure to look and feel a certain way and I thought enough is enough,” she said.

“To enter a pageant like this you have to have self confidence but it’s about something beyond and it’s great to be a part of.”

A Queenslander won the title for four consecutive years until Victoria’s Esma Voloder took the crown last year.

Other finalists were Samara Welbourne, Erin O’Rourke, Shelby Harasymenko, Hannah Skye, Emma Peterson and Tanaz Ayra.

The Queensland final will be held in May ahead of the crowning ceremony in July.
