History behind chase for Williams

-

EVERY two to three weeks Roosters supremo Nick Politis and All Blacks superstar Sonny Bill Williams chat on the telephone – but rarely about rugby league.

They share a mutual respect for what they’ve both achieved in business and in sport.

Politis always invites SBW to train at the Roosters’ Moore Park headquarters when he’s in town.

He’ll be back there again later this year once the Super Rugby season is over.

“It’s just good having him around the place,” Politis says.

“He uses our gym, mixes with the players and is a great mentor, especially for the young Polynesian boys.

“One day I’d like to have him back on the coaching staff but that’s once he’s finished playing.”

For a month there have been rumours SBW was heading back to the NRL because of the close connection.

Three weeks ago there were strong denials from Politis and SBW’s agent Khoder Nasser.

Yet a radio broadcaster announced over the weekend “it was a done deal”.

It prompted SBW to call the story “rubbish”.
