Masters site plan revealed

- ALISTER THOMSON

A PLAN to turn the former Masters store on Bundall Rd into a commercial centre – including a gym and medical centre – has moved a step closer.

Privately-owned group Home Consortium has lodged a development application to turn the 100 Bundall Rd property into a seven-tenancy centre.

It is seeking approval for a material change of use to include a food and drink outlet (cafe), indoor sport and recreation facility, and office and healthcare services. The plans include tenancies ranging from 200sq m (for a cafe or office) to 2575sq m (earmarked for a gym).

Brisbane-based Tomkins has been selected as the builder for the fit-out.

Home Consortium is owned by a group including former investment banker and Aurrum Group chairman David DiPilla, and David Schwartz, owner of property syndicator Prime West.

It completed a $700 million purchase from Woolworths of the failed Masters sites in August last year.

A spokesman for Home Consortium said, if granted approval from council, the centre would be open by the third quarter of this year. He said tenant details were expected to be released in the next few weeks.

The plans, prepared by Martin Garred of Urbis’ Gold Coast office, propose a gym operating 24/7, with a separate lift entrance.

There is a provision to turn the 200sq m tenancy into an office, should they be unable to find a cafe tenant. The remaining five spaces are earmarked for a medical centre.
