Headmaster calls for understanding in overdose drama

-

THE final Saint Stephen’s College teen who was in a critical condition following a shocking schoolyard drug overdose has been released from hospital.

It comes as the Coomera private school’s headmaster reveals how they would deal with the drug drama.

Police yesterday revealed a toxicology report confirmed the students consumed Russian “wonder drug” Phenibut.

Saint Stephen’s headmaster Jamie Dorrington, in a letter to parents, confirmed the final teen of the seven hospitalised had “recovered and returned home”. He was one of four originally taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition following the overdose.

Mr Dorrington urged others to stop the blame game.

“It goes without saying that the last few weeks have been very challenging for every member of the SSC community ... I ask each of you to put yourself in the shoes of these boys’ parents. They are good parents who do their best to care for their children, but their sons have done something that they all regret.

“I make this point, because in applying the school’s policy on misuse of drugs, I want to respect their privacy.

“This issue will be dealt with by me with reference to our policies and procedures, and not with reference to public opinion, and the school will not be making any further public comment.”
