BRENNAN ’DREAMING OF MAIDEN TITLE WIN’
WRITE us off at your own peril. NRL pundits have been tipping the Gold Coast for the wooden spoon before a ball has even been kicked but so confident is Titans coach Garth Brennan that he lies awake at night dreaming of how he will celebrate the club’s maiden premiership.
In front of a 400-strong crowd at The Star Gold Coast for the Titans’ season launch last night, Brennan spoke passionately about his team and his city. He warned NRL rivals that many would be left surprised and battered from the toughness of any contest involving his side.
“Australians love winners but they also love people who have a crack,” Brennan said. He challenged players to become the sort who teammates dream of lining up alongside. And most of all, he urged people to believe.
“One thing that I can assure everyone out there, and I spoke to the boys about this, is that I lie awake at night thinking about the celebrations the Gold Coast will have have when we bring back that premiership trophy, whenever that might be,” Brennan said to a chorus of cheers. “Councillor Tom Tate, you better be ready.” It’s Brennan’s enthusiasm that executive chairman Dennis Watt said had “set the place alight”. “The players’ partners are telling me their men are coming home from training tired but happy,” Watt said.
