Rum and reef get royal treatment

-

IT’S the Queensland holiday fit for a king – or a prince at least.

Prince Charles and Camilla will visit some of Queensland’s most iconic tourist attractions and take in some of our finest produce, including a few Bundy rums during their visit for the Commonwealth Games.

The heir to the throne will have the opportunity to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, marvel at the Daintree Rainforest, visit rare turtle rookeries and swig on Bundaberg’s most famous product at a party at the rum distillery.

The couple will touch down in Queensland on April 4, in time for the opening ceremony, before visiting the Athletes’ Village and swimming heats at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

Prince Charles will also attend a meeting on coral resilience in the southern Great Barrier Reef and a forestry roundtable in the World Heritage-listed Daintree.

While in Cairns, he will tour the HMAS Leeuwin and the local Royal Flying Doctor Service base and watch the Games’ women’s basketball.

The Prince and the Duchess will also visit Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, meeting with people from Juiced TV – Australia’s first television program made by children in hospital, for children in hospital.
