LEGEND GRINHAM IN A DIFFERENT GLASS

-

QUEENSLAND’S Rachael Grinham is a squash legend with an international career spanning more than 25 years.

Now 41 and in the twilight of her elite playing days, the Toowoomba-bred and Brisbane-based player has her eyes focused on a third Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Grinham was selected for her fifth Games in the ladies and mixed doubles competitions, and is now preparing to add to her golds from Melbourne 2006 and Glasgow 2014.

One of Grinham’s driving forces is being able to play another major event in front of a home crowd on spectator-friendly all-glass show courts.

“For us as squash players, we play tournaments all over the world but not many in Australia, so it’s really a rare experience for us to have a home crowd lined up,” she said.

“We’ve got chances to medal in almost every event, so it would be great for everyone to come along and support us.

“It’s going to be nothing like they’ve ever seen so far as they know squash.”

Grinham said winning gold at GC2018 would be an amazing career highlight.

“It still is reachable to get a gold in the doubles so that’s the one big goal that I still could possibly reach.

“It would be amazing if I could do it.”

Grinham will be in action in ladies and mixed doubles from April 10 to 15 at Oxenford Studios. Squash tickets at gc2018.com/tickets
