STUDENTS WELCOME ‘ADOPTED’ COUNTRY

EIGHT lucky students from Worongary State School will have the opportunity to welcome athletes from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines after receiving a special invitation from its Commonwealth Games team.

The Worongary school has formed a relationship with Kingstown Preparatory School from the Caribbean nation as part of the GC2018 Schools Connect Program.

Teacher Elaine Quarman said plans were now underway for the randomly chosen students to attend the Games Village welcoming ceremony for the Saint Vincent team.

Students have been writing letters to “pen pals” in their adopted school to learn about the culture and also organised a book drive to donate reading materials, art supplies and stationery.
