TIME TO SHINE AT AWARDS

-

NOMINATIONS for the 2018 Queensland Training Awards are now open, aiming to find the best of the best in the vocational education and training (VET) sector.

The awards celebrate quality teachers, trainers, students and employers, with 14 categories for individuals and organisations.

Skills and Training Development minister Shannon Fentiman says the awards have never been so important to showcase available careers.

“Training and upskilling Queenslanders is vital to making sure we can continue to have the largest job growth in the country,” she says.

“I encourage Queenslanders in training to get on board and nominate for this year’s awards to celebrate their outstanding work across the state.”

Queensland Training Awards winners will be announced in September, with many becoming finalists at the Australian Training Awards, held in Sydney in November. Last year, Queensland finalists won all three employer categories at the Australian awards. Tradesmen on Time was named Small Employer of the Year, Darwalla Group won Medium Employer of the Year and Hutchinson Builders took home Large Employer of the Year.

Darwalla human resources and quality manager Juan Corredor says his involvement in the awards, both state and national, has allowed him to meet people from other organisations that are passionate about employee development.

“It has been invigorating to see how training can change lives and it is humbling that we are part of that,” he says. “Our involvement with the QTA has been very positive, it has validated Darwalla’s efforts and commitment to training.

“It has proven that our training programs are best practice and are recognised as such.”

Nominations for the Queensland awards close on March 16. Visit training.qld. gov.au/qta.
