BOHL-T FROM THE BLUE
FORGET Usain Bolt, here comes Georgia Bohl. The Gold Coaster, whose father Michael swam at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games in 1982, is ready to star in her home Games after winning the women’s 100m breaststroke at the Australian Swimming Trials last night. Also there will be Cate Campbell, who won the women’s 100m freestyle and Olympic Champion Kyle Chalmers, who won the men’s equivalent.
GOLD Coaster Georgia Bohl will emulate her father Michael after booking a place at the Commonwealth Games.
Bohl won the women’s 100m breaststroke at the Australian National Swimming Trials at Southport last night and, while outside the automatic qualifying time, she will make the team for the medley relay.
She will follow in the footsteps of her father Michael, who swam at the Brisbane Games in 1982.
Bohl pipped fellow Gold Coaster Leiston Pickett, who now faces a nervous wait to see whether she makes the team after also missing the qualifying time.
The win caps a great comeback for Bohl, who missed last year’s world championships with injury.
Her training regime includes racing the Griffith University’s three male breaststrokers.
“It’s not my best time but considering what’s happened the last year I’m really happy with it,” Bohl said.
“I was pretty concerned because I had (a left knee) injury for about seven months. When everyone was at worlds, I was doing rehab and working.
“That taught me a lot and built my character.”
