Reports of rape on rise

A SPIKE in the reporting of rape crime in Queensland has been linked to the watershed #MeToo movement which hit Hollywood like an earthquake before spreading worldwide.

For the first time since at least 1997, reported rapes and attempted rapes have soared to more than 2000 a year.

Queensland Police data show these sex crimes rose nearly 15 per cent in 2017 to 2056 incidents across the state

The number of rapes and attempted rapes reported on the Gold Coast went from 159 in 2016 to 224 last year and Brisbane 192 to 242.
